Just when we thought it was over
Yasi’s tail had the sting. This afternoon we had 140 millimetres of rain in three hours. The street turned into a raging torrent. The gutters on the house behind were full of storm debris and so were ours. The water overflowed, filled their yard, and then ours. It took us two hours to clean the Continue reading
Aftermath
The high tide this morning meant there was a likelihood of some low-level flooding in Cairns. I believe Machans Beach saw water over its rock wall. At Trinity the waves were chaotic, but they only delivered sand higher up the beaches. I think the Life Guard Hut will still be there tomorrow 🙂 Vasey Esplanade Continue reading

Trinity Beach seems to have survived Cyclone Yasi with minimal damage. There’s a lot of vegetation down, some awnings missing, broken fences and debris everywhere, but the sea hasn’t inundated any of the low lying areas. We turned the front of the house into a car yard. They provide more protection for our big glass doors and the recalcitrant roller door. Plus the added advantage of a quick escape if required… And then a man and a dog need a nap to recover 🙂

The windows are taped, the pool fence is wrapped, the garage roller door is braced. We’ve dropped off our valuable documents to friends with a storm bunker in their house and now we wait.
