The plants are in – who knew we had so many… The glass pool fence is wrapped up like a giant Christmas present and I’ve just been on mid-west NSW ABC radio chatting about Yasi!

Morning before
Have just come back from a walk on the beach and you can see the outer wall of Yasi to the south east. The wind’s from the south as well which suggests Yasi is already to below of us. Innisfail may well be the worst hit again and my thoughts are with those people.
Off to bed :)
Not a breath of wind outside… No flying foxes scattered across the sky while we had dinner and the Rainbow Bee-eaters who have been resident in our trees outside have vanished as well. Time for bed, then an early start tomorrow!
The coming of Yasi
For as long as there’s power I plan on blogging and twittering the goings-on in Cairns as Cyclone Yasi bears down on the coast. This link will take you to a pretty spectacular satellite link that shows the extent of Yasi – http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/tropic2/real-time/austeast/movies/gmsirn/gmsirnjava.html How bad will it be? The power of good company
Writing can be a solitary experience – FOR THE HUSBAND! What the? Hmm, seems husband is hell bent on hijacking my keyboard today… He’s now been banished to the couch and cricket!! (Go the Aussies!) Undaunted, and working from temporary offices, they’ve put together a fund raiser for the QLD Flood appeal. The list of prizes is huge with over 150 well known Continue reading

Ever wondered about Book Sellers and what motivates them, what keeps them going when the book industry seems such hardwork? Today I have Nicola Pitt of Love Books as my guest. She’s based in rural Australia, but that hasn’t stopped her becoming a growing force in the book world. Nicola who is Love Books? Tell Continue reading
The power of words
It’s wonderful to see so many people rallying to help others. My publisher Hachette has made a very generous donation to the appeal and when I checked on the list of corporate donors on the website I was amazed at the extent of donations and the diversity of companies helping out. Lovely to see 🙂 Continue reading
After the clean up
The pictures of volunteers lining up to help in flood-devastated Brisbane are wonderful and say so much about the generosity of spirit within our communities. RWA has a book appeal running. So many other organisations including ARRA are staging fund-raising events. It’s wonderful to see and every cent will be vital. But these communties will Continue reading
