Risotto and life

I’m home for ย a brief fourteen hours, sitting in the North Queensland warmth and enjoying a long cold drink. On the other side of the kitchen bench is my husband patiently stirring a ham and mushroom risotto. (He’s a devotee of Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson so this is not going to be a low calorie affair). Risotto is one of my favourite dishes – partly because it’s yummy, but partly because it takes time, patience and an appreciation of good ingredients. GW knows ย he’s just been awarded a truck load of gold stars for his efforts ๐Ÿ™‚ He’s gone to great lengths to get it all set to go so we can chat about our week (I’ve been in Brisbane for the last four days and he’s been home alone…) while he stirs, and stirs, and stirs some more.

As 2010 draws to a close I’m feeling philosophical. I don’t make New Year resolutions, but I do think the start of a year is an opportunity to reflect back on the last twelve months and look forward to the next set. Maybe it’s the G & T I’m sipping, but it seems to me that a good risotto has a great deal in common with good relationships/friendships. Throw in the right ingredients, simmer over time and be patient, and you can have friendships that will sustain you through a lifetime. I’m fortunate to have a few of those (GW is one of the them!) and I know each year makes those bonds stronger. So Happy New Year to you all. Treasure the people around you who make your life better and look forward to 2011 and all it has to offer.

  2. Hi Sandy, yes line training is going well ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy New Year to you and B.

As to the website – I foolish did an update… looks like I’ve got some un-updating to do… sigh…

  3. Hey G, Gotta love Nigella. And congratulations on your imminent departure from the grass widows/widowers club.

On that note, how’s your line training going, Helene?

    Happy New Year Phillipa.

Happy New Year, G, Z and Helene.

  4. I love risotto too, a great excuse to pile on the butter and parmesan. And I don’t make resolutions either, I simply suggest things to my subconcious.

I did spend Christmas with family and friends and even though I am exhausted I feel very lucky to have them. Two people very dear to me are facing a struggle with disease and all I want this year is to be able to spend next Christmas with them, and lots more Christmas’s as well.

Best wishes, Helene, for the new year
    Phillipa x
