It’s easy to spot a new mum when Sunbirds start nesting. She’s the one building her nest on the bottom of a hanging basket and using a piece of scrappy plant to anchor it instead of the string provided by her house keeper…
Lucky for her there’s an interfering human 🙂
I think she may have even been grateful 🙂
A little bit smaller than a sparrow, Cathy and they have a maximum of two chicks usually.
Sandy, the male still isn’t involved in the nest building yet but I’m hoping he’ll be there by the time I get home! The string had been hanging there for two years… But GW threaded another piece through the top of the nest and tied it off to the basket so we’re reasonably sure it will hold now 🙂
Oh Helene, sunbirds! I haven’t seen one since we left Cairns. Have you got a picture of the male?
Leave the string up to season, we found they preferred old crappy pieces – something the elements had had a go at.
Nice impatiens and cordylines, by the way. 🙂
Pretty little bird, about the size of a sparrow? howe many chicks will she have?
