Gardening in the tropics has many perils. (Most of them involve men with chainsaws or the over zealous use of pruning equipment – normally by my husband…) We had a half yearly cut-back yesterday and mother Β nature got her revenge π
In the photo my husband is performing the Green Ant Dance. When you disturb the nest that they’ve carefully built the ants get very agitated and descend in their hundreds to nip you. For small insects they sure pack some punch. They are also adept at getting into the oddest places… hence the shirt slapping, leg wriggling, arm waving performance…
Good thing too, I AM allergic to the German wasp–which we also had in New Zealand. The damn things are about as popular as Adolf Hitler aorund our household. I once got stung when I was about 10, several times on the same arm by a single wasp and I was in agony.
I like my rugged and tough, Sandy π
We do have wasps, but not the paper variety, and neither of us messes with those…
Nice one Helene, hd is in peril and your first instinct is to grab the camera. Ah well, at least it wasn’t paper wasps! π
Yep, they do hurt a little bit – thankfully neither of us is allergic to their bite.
Cathy, lol, he’s from northern England so a Highland Fling is probably appropriate π
Yes, Ouch. Their sting is so horrible. I think I’m alergic. lol.. but seriously green ants sting like nothing else. π
Is the Green Ant Dance like the Queensland version of the Helson Clog Dance, or perhaps, from the way he has his hands the Highland Fling? π
Ouchhhh!!!!!
